With all the noise about bringing manufacturing back to America, what is the government really doing?
Everywhere you look, there’s talk about “reshoring” and “bringing manufacturing back.” Politicians say it. CEOs of giant corporations say it. But let’s be honest—most of the actual government investment is going to the very largest players: Intel, Boeing, Ford, and other Fortune 100 companies.
The Reality: Small Business Is American Business
99.9% of all U.S. businesses are small businesses.
89% are very small: four employees or fewer.
46% of Americans work in small businesses.
The Core Challenge
So what do we need to do to bring manufacturing back to America? We have to create products that compete with foreign imports. Products that YOU will buy because they cost about the same as Chinese imports. And how do we do that? There are two choices:
Work for $4/hour and give up the protections and quality of life we value.
Automatic machines (robots) that we don’t pay by the hour make the products.
Why Isn’t It Happening Already?
If it’s so simple, why isn’t it happening? Great question: Why don’t you have robots throughout your shop? That’s the question of our time now in America. And don’t say it’s because robots take away jobs, when you struggle to find people willing to do these jobs.
Bottom line:
What is your reluctance? What’s your excuse? Drop me a note or give me a call 805-244-9300 x 7001 and tell me. I’m dying to understand.
